ATP 3-18.10 defines the current U.S. Army Special Forces (SF) concept of planning, coordinating, and executing air operations. This ATP provides techniques and procedures for air operations supporting all SF missions and collateral activities.

The primary users of this publication are commanders and operational personnel at the operational detachment–alpha (ODA), operational detachment–bravo, and operational detachment–charlie levels. This ATP is specifically for SF; however, it is also intended for use Army-wide to improve the integration of SF into the plans and operations of other forces.

This publication applies to the Active Army, the U.S. Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and the U.S. Army Reserve.

• Premission preparation, including rehearsals and briefbacks.
• Significant actions, considerations, and decisions that can determine the success of a mission.
• Use of equipment and indigenous assets in various air operations.
• Types of airborne missions, airdrops, and training requirements.
• Drop zones (DZs), landing zones (LZs), pickup zones (PZs), and markings.
• Standard, special operations, and nonstandard aircraft.
• Rigging and inspection of aircraft for fast-roping, rappelling, bundle drops, special patrol insertion/extraction (SPIE) systems, ladder operations, helocasting, hard ducks, rolled ducks, K-ducks, and personnel drops.
