This regulation implements a part of the Army Awards Program. It prescribes Department of the Army (DA) policy, criteria, and procedures for individual and unit military awards and foreign decorations and badges. AR 672–20 prescribes Army policy governing incentive awards, honorary awards and devices, awards from non-Federal organizations, and medals for public service. The goal of the Army Awards Pro- gram is to foster mission accomplishment by recognizing excellence of both military and civilian members of the force and motivating them to high levels of performance and service.

This regulation applies to the Regular Army, the Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and the U.S. Army Reserve, unless otherwise stated. It also applies to retired military personnel of all branches, foreign military personnel, and Department of Defense Civilians, as indicated.
