Will Eisner (The Spirit and Godfather of the graphic novel format) returned to work for the US Army in 1951, just a few years after his service during WWII. Eisner illustrated the Army's PS Magazine for the next 21 years, as well as many pamphlets and supplements. These were generally published in a comicbook art format, forever changing the dry and dull face of Army publications.
