ATP 7-100.1 describes Russian tactics for use in Army training, professional education, and leader development. This document is part of the ATP 7-100 series that addresses a nation-state’s military doctrine with a focus on army ground forces and tactical operations in offense, defense, and related mission sets. Other foundational topics include task organization, capabilities, and limitations related to military mission and support functions. ATP 7-100.1 serves as a foundation for understanding how Russian ground forces think and act in tactical operations. This publication presents multiple examples of functional tactics in dynamic operational environment conditions. The tactics in this ATP are descriptive and provide an orientation to tactics gathered from Russian doctrine, translated literature, and observations from recent historical events.

PART ONE – RUSSIAN FUNDAMENTALS

Chapter 1 describes the strategic overview, the Russian Federation in competition, strategic objectives and setting finishing with Russia’s operational environment.

Chapter 2 describes the overview of the Russian military including its role and National support. Additionally, the development of the modern Russian military and the doctrine and thought of the military forces.

Chapter 3 describes the Russian ground forces organization, battle management and the organization into districts.

PART TWO – TACTICAL ACTIONS

Chapter 4 describes the Russian reconnaissance and security fundamentals and formations, how the integrated air defense system role in security and the concepts of electromagnetic warfare reconnaissance and security actions.

Chapter 5 describes the doctrinal concept of fires and the Russian strike complex which includes indirect fires, antitank, radio electromagnetic battle, aerospace and missiles and rockets.

Chapter 6 describes the Russian forces defense including the purpose, goals, and requirements with an in- depth breakdown of the types of defenses.

Chapter 7 describes the Russian forces offense including the principles, planning organization and how to execute the offensive. Additionally, tactical offensive actions for battalions, detachments and subunits are described.

APPENDIXES

Appendix A describes the Russian fires complex and doctrinal capabilities and application of missile and artillery forces.

Appendix B describes the ground forces tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and airborne vehicles capabilities and limitations.
