ATP 3-50.20 sets forth the doctrine pertaining to the planning, preparation and readiness of leaders, Soldiers, Army Civilians, and contractors in survival, evasion, resistance and escape (SERE), prior to mission execution. This ATP discusses the tenets of SERE and the relationship of SERE planning and preparation prior to an isolating event.

The principle audience for ATP 3-50.20 is all members of the profession of arms. Leaders, Soldiers, Army Civilians, and contractors who might become isolated from their unit during a mission. Trainers and educators throughout the Army will also use this publication.

ATP 3-50.20 applies to the Active Army, Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and United States Army Reserve unless otherwise stated.

                                                              

Introduction

 

ATP 3-50.20 is the first in the series of publications that covers survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE) for Army forces. This publication highlights the correlation between personnel recovery, and SERE. This, the first in the ATP 3-50 series, discusses the planning and preparation required for leaders, staffs, Soldiers, Army Civilians, and Army contractors who may encounter SERE operations.

ATP 3-50.20 contains three chapters and twelve appendixes. The following is a brief description of each chapter and appendix:

 

Chapter  1  discusses  how  SERE  nests  within  personnel  recovery,  the  SERE  proficiencies, considerations for isolated personnel, and SERE planning and preparation requirements.

Chapter 2 discusses operational and mission variables in relation to SERE, planning estimates, and SERE planning resources and products.

Chapter 3 discusses personal preparation efforts for isolation and how units prepare their personnel for SERE.

Appendix A is a discussion on survival kits.

Appendix B provides additional information on isolated Soldier guidance.

Appendix C provides an evasion plan of action template.

Appendix D explains the isolated personnel report (ISOPREP).

Appendix E discusses Army contractor considerations.

Appendix F discusses SERE considerations for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear environmental Hazards.Appendix G discusses SERE considerations for deserts.

Appendix H explains SERE considerations for the tropics.

Appendix I SERE considerations for cold weather.

Appendix J discusses SERE considerations for mountains.

Appendix K explains SERE considerations for open seas.

Appendix L discusses SERE considerations for urban areas.

 

This book is a "mini" (7 1/4 inches high by 5 1/2 inches wide) size - A popular size to carry anywhere (briefcase, large pocket, purse) but the print is large enough for easy reading.

 

The covers are laminated for weather protection with black and white inside printing.

Coil binding is used allowing for easy page flipping with jamming.
