TM 3-34.82/MCRP 3-17.7L provides doctrine on the procedures that support the combat operations that are provided by engineer capabilities to the combined arms team. This doctrine reduces the effectiveness of barriers, obstacles, infrastructure, and minefields  to  maintain  mobility  and  momentum  in  the  operating  area. TM 3-34.82/MCRP 3-17.7L is the reference manual for explosives and demolitions procedures that support combat operations and for peacetime training missions that require demolition applications.

This manual provides the theory of explosives, explosive characteristics and their common uses, formulas for calculating various types of charges, and the standard methods of priming and placing charges. TM 3-34.82/MCRP 3-17.7L also provides doctrine on constructing charges for various applications and on maintaining mobility and momentum in the operational environment. It focuses on the demolition systems and materials required to accomplish the mission and addresses urban and complex environments. This manual describes in detail the procedures required to assemble and emplace explosive charges for impartial or complete destruction.

The principal audience for TM 3-34.82/MCRP 3-17.7L is Soldiers and Marines at the unit level and below. This doctrine will assist Army branch schools in teaching the integration of engineer explosive capabilities into Army operations. Given the magnitude of changes in demolition materials and in the techniques used in recent years, becoming familiar with the information in this publication is essential for the effective use of explosives.

This publication applies to the total force Marine Corps, Active Army, Army National Guard/Army National Guard of the United States, and U.S. Army Reserve unless otherwise stated
