This manual provides operation and service instructions for the M16A2, M16A3, M16A4 Rifles and the M4 and M4A1 Carbines.
M16 is the oldest of the three introduced in the 60's and used by the U.S. Military ever since Vietnam. Usually has a longer barrel a longer barrel than the M4 and has a fixed stock. The M16 usually fires three round burst and semi automatic.
The M4 is a shorter version of the M16. It has a collapsible stock and usually fires fully automatic. Both the M16 and M4 shoot the 5.56 caliber round.
The AR-15 is the civilian version of the M4/M16. It shoots semi automatic.
PURPOSE OF EQUIPMENT. The purpose of the weapons is to provide personnel offensive/defensive capabilities for engagement of targets in the field.
